Fresh from winning her first WTA Tour singles title in Washington, the 21 year old Filipina has brought her momentum to Toronto for the National Bank Open.
Eala advanced after defeating American Alycia Parks in three sets, 6 to 1, 4 to 6 and 6 to 2. She controlled the opening set, stayed composed when Parks responded and regained command in the deciding set.
The victory continued an outstanding season that has taken Eala to a career high world ranking of number 20.
Earlier this year, she won the Birmingham Open and reached the fourth round at Wimbledon. Her breakthrough in Washington added another historic milestone when she came from behind to defeat world number three Jessica Pegula, 4 to 6, 6 to 4 and 6 to 0, for her first tour level WTA singles title.
