Toronto is getting ready for one of its biggest Filipino celebrations of the summer.
Taste of Manila returns on August 15 and 16, transforming a section of Bathurst Street into a lively gathering filled with Filipino food, music, dance, art and community spirit.
The festival will take place in Toronto’s Little Manila, beginning near Bathurst Street and Wilson Avenue and extending toward Laurelcrest Avenue.
Admission is free, and people of all ages and cultural backgrounds are welcome.
What visitors can expect
Organizers are promising a full weekend of activities, with more than 150 vendors, over 350 local entertainers and three performance stages inspired by Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Visitors can expect traditional Filipino dishes, street food favourites, desserts, handcrafted products and modern creations inspired by familiar Filipino flavours.
For many guests, food will be one of the main attractions. It is also one of the easiest ways to introduce friends and neighbours to Filipino culture.
Whether you are looking for barbecue, lumpia, pancit, grilled seafood, rice cakes or a refreshing Filipino dessert, arriving hungry is highly recommended.
Live singers, bands, dance groups and cultural performers will provide entertainment throughout the weekend. Several guest artists from the Philippines are also expected to appear.
A parade of Filipino pride
One of the festival highlights will be a cultural parade featuring more than one thousand participants.
